FAQs

How long are sessions?

Usually 50 minutes. But the first session will be a double session lasting up to 90 minutes so we can be thorough.

How many sessions will I need?

This is different for each person, depending on what you are hoping to achieve. Most people choose to have weekly sessions over a sustained period, we review the pacing of this together regularly, adjusting as needed. I recommend a package of sessions, usually six sessions minimum.

Do I need to do anything in preparation for our sessions?

Following the taster session I will send you a questionnaire which I ask you return in advance of the first paid session along with a contract outlining our agreement. Before our each session I will ask that you bring a topic for that week so we can really get the most out of the time.

Do I have to have sessions in person?

Not at all. Most of my sessions are held over zoom, but telephone and in-person appointments are available. I find all are equally effective and bring different qualities to the session.

How will I know if you’re the right coach for me?

I offer a 30-minute complimentary taster session, after which we’ll decide if it feels like the right fit.

How is coaching different to therapy?

Most simply I tend to think of therapy as being interested in the past while coaching is future focussed. Rather than trying to understand the why, in coaching we focus on what is going on now and what clues that gives you about what you want to be different and then we work together to grow you, track a path forward, implementing action to create change and reach your goals.

When might I need therapy and not coaching?

If you are working with material that feels like it might need psychotherapeutic expertise. After the complimentary session we will discuss if coaching is the right approach. It may be that somewhere along the process it emerges therapy might be more appropriate, in which case I will support you to find the right person, or I may suggest you also have therapy alongside coaching.

Can I have therapy at the same time as coaching?

Absolutely. They can complement one another well.

Can you promise me that all the goals I bring to sessions will be achieved?

Only you can determine this. I will support you and work to make this happen but ultimately the real coaching work happens outside of the sessions by implementing the changes you want to see. I am entirely invested in my clients, if you are committed to reaching these goals, together we will make them happen.
